The Pileo floor lamp was designed by Gae Aulenti (1927-2012) for Artemide in 1972. It is 135 cm tall, and 35 cm in diameter. The plastic shade pivots like a helmet to direct the light. The base is enamelled with rubber fittings.
The Pileo is commonly seen in Living Quarters and Medical rooms. In Space Warp , the Pileo by the door has a red bulb.
The Pileo was also seen in the TV series Dr Who. They can be seen on the planet Gallifrey in the 1978 story ‘The Invasion of Time’, and in the main Tardis set from 2010 to 2012.
